EPISODE 2 – SHYLOCK
As many of us try to find a way through the pandemic, tensions and previous injustices begin to come to light as those who have been quietly pivoting and often thriving during this time discover we have a power of resilience that others do not seem to have. As Shylock is about to discover – with any power comes responsibility and we all have a choice in how we respond to those who have injured us in the past, but need our help now. Can we protect our personal boundaries without being cruel? Can the divides we now find ourselves facing be healed? Will compassion win, or will revenge? The choice, as always, is up to us.
“The web of our life is of a mingled yarn, good and ill together …” – William Shakespeare, All’s Well That Ends Well
Walking Shadows Vol. 1, set as Melbourne re-emerged from its 6th (and second longest) lockdown due to Covid-19, shines a light on the little things as our city came slowly back to life.
In a world where masks were beginning to be removed (for better or ill) and we came together face-to-face for the first time in a long time – this series explores the myriad of issues our previous isolation caused or caused us to hide, as seen through the lens of a wide range of Shakespeare characters, using his original words.
Filmed by the 2021 graduating students from the Howard Fine Acting Studio Australia on smartphones & cameras under McLean’s direction in real time via Zoom calls, the entire series was made during the Melbourne lockdowns of 2021.
