Zoe is a nurse, worn out from long shifts at the hospital during the pandemic and from caring for her mother, who passed away some months prior. She’s taken a week off work to clear their mother’s cottage – and their family home – before it’s sold for good.
Beth is a musician, living in New York to be part of a well-respected orchestra. Unable to fly back to help clear out the house, Beth catches up with her sister onscreen.
A short play staged over Zoom; Life in Boxes explores the relationship between two sisters as they come to terms with the loss of their mother: a brilliant but tough professor with a secret life neither of them are aware of.
Written by Isabel Dixon
Performed by Elizabeth Schenk and Chloe Wade
Directed by Adam Hemming

Life in Boxes was created as part of the Queen Mary University Conversations, following a discussion between the Space and Dr Maria Turri, Lecturer and Co-director MSc Creative Arts and Mental Health, Queen Mary University of London.
