FREEDOM WAR (with English subtitles – also available with Ukrainian subtitles)
Based on the personal experiences of Gennadiy Kurochka
In the midst of the 2014 Euromaidan protests, Gennadiy looked up through the haze at the Independence Monument, where at the top of the column, the Slavic Goddess and Protector of the Home, Berehynia, shone through like a light in the darkness. Gennadiy spent the whole two hundred and forty-two nights on Maidan Square, from the beginning to the end.
Freedom War is a beautiful and powerful tribute to all those who have sacrificed, and continue to risk their lives, in order to promote freedom, not just in Ukraine, but throughout the world.
Recited by Bréon Rydell and Yuriy Sak
Written and Directed by Bréon Rydell
Edited by Wojciech Duczmal
Sound Design by Claudia Casasoia
Presented by Freedom Square Productions in association with the Finborough Theatre
“Let not one drumbeat be missed
As ominous forces align
To undermine democracy
Enemies plot global chaos
While we in the free world
Tip toe towards the abyss.”
The Finborough Theatre’s ongoing #VoicesFromUkraine season continues with a new release for Ukraine’s Independence Day from Olivier Award nominated producer, poet, composer and activist, Bréon Rydell, premiering FREE-TO-VIEW on the Finborough YouTube channel on Thursday, 24 August 2023 at 9.00am, and concurrently on Scenesaver with subtitles in English and Ukrainian.
All videos are free to view but we do ask for donations for the ProEnglish Theatre of Ukraine
