An off-beat solo show, exploring disconnection and loneliness.
My Uncle, Tony, is seventy and has never left home. He’s a retired telecommunications test engineer and a full-time carer to my Grandpa. And to my surprise, an aspiring science-fiction writer.
One day, Tony sent an unsolicited email titled ‘An Idea Come To Me.’ He’d had a vision for something he called Space Dominoes, and suggested I ‘carry on with it.’ So I did. This show is the story of what happened next, and the journey of realising my uncle’s surreal idea. A journey to the outer limits of my fears and into the heart of our relationship.
An Idea Come To Me is part epic science-fiction adventure and part direct-address storytelling. Stepping in and out of his odyssey, I reflect on the discoveries I make about Tony and myself as our ‘co-production’ unfolds. Each discovery pushing me closer to an uncomfortable truth; my deep-rooted fear that I’ll end up the same as him.
