Tom Wicker’s article in the The Stage this week about streaming theatre during lockdown is a really interesting read. It explores the rise of digital theatre during the pandemic and ponders its future.
We particularly agree with his insight that,
Democratisation is one of the most powerful arguments in favour of streaming productions direct to people’s phones, tablets, computers and TVs. It enables those who may have felt geographically, financially or socially excluded to engage with the work on their terms. In turn, this will hopefully create an enthusiasm to see more theatre.
The piece features all the major theatre streaming platforms, including Scenesaver and looks at some of the theatre companies who have been able to make new work and get it seen during lockdown.
