Amanda is home alone and recovering from an illness.
Having made friends with an unsuspecting intruder, she fills them in on her last few weeks: a gals’ holiday gone wrong, an epiphanic stay in hospital, and a seemingly stable relationship that’s left her reeling. In a time of uncertainty, Amanda can’t do much but decide what to do with the one thing she has control over: the jar.
Myrn Devaney was among a number of Irish writers commissioned by Dublin’s New Theatre in conjunction with takeyourseats.ie at the beginning of lockdown to write a short one person play for camera in response to the current global crisis. The piece was filmed by the actor, Lauren Farrell, at her family home in Ireland.
The Jar has been viewed almost 4400 times since its Facebook premiere in April and all artists involved in the online theatre initiative, the first of its kind in Ireland, received 70% of all donations.
