Production Description

After discovering his grandparents’ old love letters, Ben makes a last attempt to secure his future with Alma. Separated by Brexit, borders and their own uncertainty, they come together for what might be the last time, to discover the love letters of Ben’s grandparents. 1945 doesn’t seem so far removed…

Utilising the real letter of Mary & Mietek this intimate journey, with beautiful live scoring, guides us between life during WW2 and the present day. A hopeful romance drawing parallels across time and to the world at large, a testament to the power of love to cross borders and break down barriers.

Katla Theatre is an award-winning, emerging company focusing on cross-cultural stories, with roots in devising and physical theatre. Founded by Danish Artistic Director Maria Laumark, working with Charlie Solboda- Bolton, Associate Artist and grandson of Mary & Mietek; first developed in 2019, reworked in 2021 winning a London Pub Theatre’s Standing Ovation Award, performed again in Autumn 2022 at The Space and Spring 2023 at Reykjavík Fringe.
