Jonathan Kaufman is Creative Director and Producer of Spontaneous Productions Theatre Company, based in Sydenham, London. He has been adding footage of productions for children and adults to Scenesaver and we asked him about the impact of the pandemic on his creative life.
The Covid-19 pandemic is a crisis like no other. Many industries and businesses are suffering badly, not least the entertainment industry, with many theatres facing financial ruin. Spontaneous Productions hopes to return later in 2020 or early 2021, provided social distancing measures can be lifted or at least reduced. We very much hope a vaccine can enable theatres and performance venues around the world to reopen their doors, and that there will be a very grateful audience awaiting our return.
In the meantime, we really appreciate the work of companies like Scenesaver, who are making accessible the great work done by theatres, and we were delighted to share our show videos – introducing a whole new audience to our work. Spontaneous will be back – see you soon!
