Production Description

A palace gardener is cornered by his employer, a brutal but beleaguered dictator, who astonishingly hands him the power to determine his fate and that of the entire nation. There is one caveat. To ensure the gardener acts ‘like a leader’ and not out of self interest, whatever he decides he will die.

“I have always been fascinated by dictators and what motivates them. I have also often wondered what I would do if handed the power to remove a brutal dictator, knowing that their removal could lead to something far worse. The Palace Garden explores these two themes in dramatic form.”

The Palace Garden is the first play by Robert Frew to receive a public performance. Another short play, Batavian’, was shortlisted for the Windsor Fringe Kenneth Branagh Award in 2020. Robert has several other short plays and a full length play, ‘Culra’, in development.

Videography by Hal Darling, Chewboy Productions.
