The OnComms (Online Commendations) are a brand new award for theatre presented online.
Announced in The Stage, the OnComms are a partnership between OffWestEnd, the London-based hub for independent, alternative and fringe theatre – and Scenesaver, the online hub for off West End and fringe performances.
For the first time ever creatives from all over the world, not just London, have the chance to win a prestigious performance award.
Eligible shows need to have been presented on film for the first time since January 2020 or recorded during the pandemic specifically for online.
Creatives are encouraged to invite the OnComm assessors to view your online production or event. If they decide it is award-worthy and it receives sufficient recommendations, it will then be put forward for an OnComm. Once approved, the OnComm will be announced online and via social media.
When things get back to more like normal, OnComm recipients will be recognised at the annual Offies awards ceremony held by OffWestEnd in February/March next year.
Scenesaver is committed to helping to generate funds for the creative sector in these difficult times. We encourage viewers to donate the price of a virtual ticket to the makers of the shows, and for OnComm entrants, 95% of those donations will go to the creatives, with 5% going towards the running costs of the awards. Productions are shared through YouTube or Vimeo links so all views count towards the creatives’ total.
We will support small theatres for the long-term, increasing visibility and accessibility to their diverse performances. Our hub encourages audiences to discover new work and see things they may never get to see in a theatre.
Scenesaver launched to the public in late May 2020 and new productions are being added to the hub all the time.
