Pat is an astronaut on the International Space Station, currently on a shared mission with a fellow American, and two Russian astronauts. Pat’s stay has been extended. He has reached breaking point with events on Earth so he has unilaterally decided to stay on the Space Station and not return to Earth. Kaye, Pat’s wife, is not happy about this. Pat’s mission partner, Mike, is not happy about this. The Russians are not happy about this. NASA is not happy about this. The only person who doesn’t see this as a problem is Pat. As Pat becomes emotionally more fragmented and contradictory, and simultaneously more resolute in his decision to never leave the Space Station, we wonder: is Pat losing his mind, or maybe he’s the only one who sees clearly?
Originally presented live on 22 August 2020 as part of the TheSpaceUK festival of online work.
