REwired Film (2020) is a thought-provoking and intimate performance that fuses dance, projection and sound, shedding light on the hidden stories of people impacted by neurodisabilities like MS. Formed from live research conducted in 2018, elements of the projection have been overlaid onto the performance to give audiences at home a textured viewing experience.
Imagine, you’re waiting at the bus stop. Your vision blurs, the floor shifts beneath you like quick sand. You go to stand up but are unable to move. When your brain says one thing, and your body says another, how do you get up and carry on?
Dancers, a projection artist and composer react to each other live, creating spontaneous moments that emulate how the body reacts to the unique symptoms of neurological conditions.
A lack of understanding, alongside multiple and complex needs means that often people with neurodisabilities and their families are left unheard and unlistened to. Participants from our Dance as Rehab sessions in hospitals and community centres worked closely with us to share their experiences through testimonials, pain diaries, movement capture, and brainwave scanners. We translated these real stories into visuals, sound and dance to create the REwired film.
