Thornhill Theatre Space Virtual Fringe Festival presents The Performance Laboratory Inc Friday Madness Monologues – “Tic Tac Toe” & “Escritorio”
The Performance Laboratory Inc., a theater group based in Bacolod City, continues its mission of promoting local artists and keeping regional theatre alive through the revival of Friday Madness – a series of short performances, readings, theatre talks and interaction.
Season 2 of Friday Madness started last July with poetry readings highlighting poetry in visual arts, theatre, dance, music and cinema. An open mic follows each reading with the reading of original poems by aspiring and award winning Negrense writers including Ismael Java and Serafin Plotria. Each reading is followed by an interaction among the participants.
“TIC TAC TOE” The play is about an idealist playwright who believes in his power as auteur, but realizes that his wings are cropped by the whims, excesses, or intellectual inferiority of his producer, audience, and critics. He writes what he intended as a “sexually charged” play, ready to face the ending controversy, and confident that he could defend his integrity as an artist. He tries to give in to the pressures from his director, producer, and critic to save his artistic vision, but in the end realizes that it is a futile and totally pointless struggle. He ends up revising his play into something avant gardethat no one can comprehend.
“ESCRITORIO” Angelica is overseas filipino worker (OFW) who spends her Christmas away from home for 5 years to make a living in a cold, bleak, desolate country which is in Afghanistan. While her annulment is still on the process, she left her kids with her parents. A story of being a daughter to her parent, a mother to her kids and becoming a better person.
Jade The Performance Laboratory aims to provide a space for thespians and theatre enthusiasts to meet in an informal setting, and encourage exchange amongst artists and audience, PerfLab Artistic Director Tanya Lopez said.
