A Small Trifle, by Emma Kelly, is a tale about authenticity. The protagonist Eve (Charlotte Eyres) is a married mother of two and a bisexual woman. She teaches dance at a school where she met her lover Annalise. Eve’s husband Simon (Zack Szreter) is a sexually experimental accountant who is seeking new thrills. Eve’s mother Barbara (Angelika May) is a homophobic pensioner who lives in the north of England. A Small Trifle, directed by Abigail Hirsch, presents as a kitchen sink drama which explores sexual identity. It touches on gender identity and explores what it means to be queer and a mother.
Part of ‘ACT II Festival’, London’s largest student drama festival, due to take place at the Arcola Theatre on 5 April 2020. The original script as been reworked into on online performance.
