Having been mentioned in London Pub Theatres Magazine recently for our partnership with Finborough Theatre, Editor Heather Jeffrey got in touch with our founder Caroline, to find out more about Scenesaver.
We love this interview as it probes Caroline’s personal passion for fringe theatre and how she got the idea for Scenesaver, long before Covid changed everything.
For a couple of hours you can step into another life and lose yourself in someone else’s story.
Heather kindly comments that
Putting performances on-line for everyone is a cracking enterprise that has never been done before
We agree! Theatre has been filmed for about 100 years but no one has thought to bring it all together online so that more people can see it after the live performance has finished.
Accessibility is a big concern for Scenesaver, which is acknowledged in the interview. We are big fans of the theatre work that gets put on in London’s pub theatres. As Caroline says:
It is so easy forget that not everyone can clamber down a stone staircase into a pub cellar, or sit on an uncomfortable bench for a 90 minute show. For many just getting to the theatre is a struggle so Scenesaver is opening up a whole new world to so many people.
We are pleased to report that to date, there performances on Scenesaver filmed at some of London’s best pub theatres, the Hen and Chickens Islington, Kings Head Theatre, Finborough Theatre, Canal Cafe, Etcetera Theatre, The Dolphin Sydenham, Brockley Jack, Theatre 503 and The White Bear Kennington.
